Accessible services

• Free admission

  Free admission Those holding a disability card or disability identification (issued by a social welfare authority) and their companion (one only) may enter the exhibition galleries for free.
  Other companions are required to purchase a ticket for admission.

• Free audio guide rental

  Those holding a disability card or disability identification (issued by a social welfare authority) and their companion (one only) may each rent one audio guide for free; both will require visitors to present identification (all nationalities are accepted, and all types of audio guides are available for rental).

  

• Booking guided tours

  Visitors with disabilities are welcome to book guided tours or apply for group tours. To ensure the museum is accessible to everyone, the NPM will customize its services and visiting schedules according to the characteristics and needs of different disabilities, ages and numbers of visitors. To ensure high-quality services, please contact us two weeks prior to your visit.

  The “Overcoming Obstacles and Embracing Beauty” educational program

  

  Verbal imaging audio guide

  The verbal imaging audio guide contains selected artifacts from permanent exhibitions (with verbal descriptions in Chinese) and is equipped with visual aids and functions such as a built-in VoiceOver screen reader and a magnifying glass that can be used by visitors. Visitors are recommended to use the audio guide with the Floor Plan and the Braille Visitor Manual to deepen their understanding of the content.

  Tactile Map

  The tactile map is a map of the NPM Northern Branch, the NPM Main Building, and various service facilities with information and names in braille. The tactile map is available at the service desks on B1 and the first floor of the NPM Main Building; rental is free.

  Braille Visitor Manual

  The Braille Visitor Manual contains descriptions of selected artifacts (includes Chinese, Braille, and tactile images) from the verbal imaging audio guide and service information for visitors with visual disabilities. Visitors are recommended to use the manual together with the verbal imaging audio guide to deepen their understanding of the content presented. The manual is available at the service desks on B1 and the first floor of the NPM Main Building; rental is free. Visitors may also browse copies in the galleries on the second and third floors of the NPM’s Main Building.

  Verbal descriptions of animated videos

  To better serve visitors with visual disabilities, the NPM has introduced a number of animated films with verbal descriptions. Please visit the iPalace Channel to view these animated films.

• Services for visitors with hearing disabilities

  

  Sign language guide

  Artifacts are presented in sign language videos (in Taiwan Sign Language), with some containing Chinese subtitles. The guide features functions such as zoom, volume adjustment, and video playback.

  Multimedia guide (includes text-based guides)

  The multimedia audio guide offers services in Chinese, Taiwanese, Hakka Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Cantonese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, etc. Captions are available for certain artifacts.

• Easy-to-read visitor information

  In order to promote equal rights and easy-to-read information, the NPM is among the first to introduce "learning disability" and "easy-to-read" icons to museums in Taiwan. Additionally, the NPM created a museum guide according to “Easy Read” principles implemented by the European Union and various countries worldwide; the layout and texts were also designed specifically to meet the needs of visitors with learning disabilities. Youths with learning disabilities were consulted to help test and review the guide, and provided valuable suggestions for planning the treasure hunting routes.

• Guidelines for the admission of guide dogs, hearing dogs, and service dogs

  People with visual, hearing, and/or physical disabilities are welcome to visit the NPM with their qualified guide dogs, hearing dogs, and service dogs when they enter the museum. Professional trainers of guide dogs, hearing dogs, and service dogs can also visit the NPM with their qualified dogs and/or puppies during training. Article 11 of the Regulations for Determining and Using Qualified Guide, Hearing, and Service Dogs and Puppies will be in effect.

  1. Visitors with visual, hearing, and/or physical disabilities should bring user qualification certificates and service dog certifications.
  2. Professional trainers should bring a professional trainer qualification certificate and service dog/puppy training certificates and present them voluntarily.
  3. Guide dogs should wear harnesses, whereas hearing dogs and service dogs should wear vests.
  4. Guide puppies should wear training vests or harnesses, whereas hearing puppies and service puppies should wear training vests.

  Articles 60 and 100 of the People with Disabilities Rights Protection Act as well as all other relevant laws and regulations will be in effect.
